What is a Veterinary Technician?
We do love our pets. And why wouldn’t we? Some of them are so cute and give us a lot of pleasure. Unfortunately, just like humans, they do get sick. When they do, it is our responsibility to take care of them.

This is the reason we need veterinary technicians. Vet Techs help veterinarians provide medical care to animals. A typical work day for this technician will include some or all of the following:

1. Take and develop animal X-rays
2. Assist the Veterinarian to diagnose medical conditions and diseases in animals
3. Take vital signs like blood pressure, temperature, and pulse in animals
4. Perform urine test and analysis
5. Perform blood test and analysis
6. Dress injuries by cleaning and applying bandages
7. Give injection to animals
8. Bathe and groom animals
9. Perform intravenous feeding to animals
10. Update and maintain treatment records
11. Etc.

Vet techs are regarded as the nurses of veterinary medicine. They must show compassion and understanding to the animals and their owners.

How to Become a Veterinary Technician:
To become a vet tech, you should get your high school diploma. Recommended high school classes are healthcare education, biology, algebra, chemistry, and algebra. A high school equivalency certificate will also do.

You should them apply to a school that has veterinary technology program to study vet tech. In such a school, you will learn things like:

a. Animal Husbandry
b. Medical Terminology for Animals
c. Animal Medical Techniques
d. Animal Diseases
e. Animal Urine Analysis
f. Blood Analysis for Animals
g. Introduction to Biology
h. Hematology
i. Etc.

When it comes to licensing, the requirements vary from state to state. However, all states require you to be licensed before you can practice. The most common license or certification is taking and passing the National Veterinary Technician (NVT) exam.

Veterinary Technician Salary:
These technicians for veterinarians make good pay. The national average salary is $29,000 per year. This salary can go as high as $40,000 per year. Of course your location, education and experience level will play a role in how much money you make.
