Need to pass National Council Licensure Examination or NCLEX-RN - exam consists of multiple-choice questions including such topics as health promotion, care and comfort of patients, infection control, psychosocial integrity, pharmacology and reduction of risk - You must pass this test in order to start working as a practicing nurse.

Before you become a full-fledged dermatology nurse, you are required to work as a nurse for two years in a dermatology work setting. This may be at a hospital, private physician's office, health care center, university health care center or any other health-related setting.

Make sure that during this two-year period, you gain both knowledge and experience in doing specific job tasks. You must complete 2,000 hours of work in the field of dermatology in order to sit for certification exam to become a dermatology nurse.

You must have a passing grade on the Dermatology Nurse Certification exam. This will demonstrate that you have successfully attained specialized knowledge in the field of dermatology nursing.

Like the NCLEX-RN exam, this test consists of multiple-choice questions on such subjects as general dermatology, infections, acne, wounds, surgical dermatology, dermatitis and rosacea. This certification remains valid for three years. You can renew your certification by either taking continuing education courses or you can gain credit by examination.
