What is Family Care Nurse?
Family Care Nurses are nursing practitioners charged with providing healthcare to family members from childhood into old age. They often work with general practitioners and physicians to provide health care to the family. They keep in constant touch with patients in the family, taking note of their health needs and encouraging family members to adopt healthy lifestyles as an illness preventative measure.

The Family Care Nurse carries out his/her data collection duties in several steps involving five different categories. These are:

1. Family structure, data and dynamics:
This is the demographic data and composition of the family members, the type of family, level of family interaction, decision-making patterns and other dynamics.

2. Socio-economic and cultural characteristics:
Gathering information on each family member's occupation, income, place of work, education level, ethnic background, religious affiliation of each member, significant others in the lives of individual members and how they affect family life and the family's relationship to the community.

3. Home and environment:
Data collection on neighborhood, type of housing family occupy, sanitation and sanitation facilities, availability of social and health amenities (including transportation and communication) in the community.

4. Health status of each family member:
Recording past and present major illnesses affecting each member, practices and beliefs affecting their health, nutritional status, developmental status, and physical assessment results, screening and diagnostic tests results are also noted.

2. Conducting physical tests and examinations

4. Administering injections to family members
5. Monitoring the health of family members

Family Care Nurses are trained to provide overall and specialized health care to both adults and children throughout their lives. They advice on lifestyle adjustments that patients need to make in order to curb the contraction of infections and their adverse effects. Because they monitor the patients' health from a young age, they are able to detect a problem in its initial stages and offer treatment before it progresses to an acute, advanced stage.

How to become a Family Care Nurse:
To become a Family Care Nurse, one must go through an undergraduate nursing program to attain a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, which usually takes four years. They can then join a graduate program for a master's degree in nursing and pass several exams including the NCLEX-RN exam. Continuous learning over the course of one's career is recommended in order to keep abreast with changes in medical care.
